THE HEDGEHOG?

What do you name a toffee company? This question plagued me for weeks. Until, one day, in the most random of places, while washing dishes in my sister-in-laws kitchen sink next to the soap and sponges, I saw it! A hedgehog depicted on a handmade card. Instantly, I knew the name: Hedgehog Toffee!

THE HEDGEHOG CONFIRMATION

“The fox knows many things; but the hedgehog one big thing.”
-Ancient Greek Poet Archilochus

How can it be that a cunning and devious fox while looking for lunch is continually outwitted by the hedgehog? The fox has many tricks, but the hedgehog knows one simple thing: if he rolls up into a ball, his spikes make him an impenetrable little fortress.

WE DO ONE THING WELL.

OUR STORY

The story of Hedgehog Toffee is far more than the starting of a business... I received a phone call from my doctor one day while sitting at my desk at work. He said, "I'm sorry Trevor you have a hyper active form of cancer: Adult T-Cell Lymphoma." Needless to say it was a bad day. Despite the bad news Kendra and I decided to get engaged and began planning our wedding while I began chemotherapy.

THEN CAME THE HAIRCUT

My hair began to fall out shortly after the first aggresive cycle of chemo. We ended up shaving it off so I wouldn't shed like a wookie. I was told I have a "nicely shaped head". Treatment would consist of 8 intense cycles of chemo and a spinal tap for each to boot.

THE WEDDING

3 cycles into treatment, Kendra and I were married in October of 2011. My Mom, Barb, generously gifted her handmade English Toffee to us as wedding favors. It was a huge blessing and a total hit!

GENEROSITY

HEDGEHOG TOFFEE STARTS AND FINISHES

My mom, Barb, began making and gifting this delectable toffee over 20 years ago. Every year during Christmas time the sounds of toffee making, chopping almonds, my mom yelling at my dad to pour the caramel correctly, could be heard coming from the garage. I still remember playing the "delivery boy" along with my brother bringing toffee to all the neighbors.

Her generosity extends beyond the neighborhood. She's gotten into a habit of giving her toffee as wedding favors to friends and family members who are getting married. For the past 20 years she has also donated proceeds from her toffee to the annual "Beat the Bridge" Fundraiser for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation by selling it to her co-workers at Nordstrom.

Just like my mom has stood at the finish line ready and willing to give in the Beat the Bridge race to end Type 1 Diabetes, Hedgehog Toffee will continue the legacy of Generosity. As a team we are passionate about providing clean water for people around the world, ending human trafficking and helping support cancer patients with funds for uncompensated care.

WE PLAN TO GIVE A PORTION OF OUR TOTAL MONTHLY REVENUE TO THESE CHARITIES
